Walking into the Dolphin Restaurant in Barnstable, Massachusetts, is a bit like visiting a nice family home. Outside there’s a white picket fence and pretty landscaping; inside there’s a warm welcoming setting. Though often bustling, the quiet ambiance is conducive to conversation. No wonder it’s been a favorite on Cape Cod for 70-plus years.
The food at the Dolphin is unpretentious, but consistently top-notch. Seafood, of course, is a feature, and most of it comes from surrounding waters, such as appetizers of Barnstable stuffed quahogs, or Barnstable little neck clams served in the half-shell or stuffed. The entrees also draw from Cape waters with dishes such as nut-crusted cod filet, and scallops with a lobster and portabella mushroom stuffing.
But there’s more to the Dolphin menu than fish. There’s a nice selection of salads, pastas, sandwiches, and meat and poultry dishes. And if you have room, try one of the restaurant’s yummy desserts.
Service at The Dolphin is professional and knowledgeable. A cozy bar area invites lingering, and is a great place enjoy a drink or catch up on a game.
