Walk to the corner of Pearl and South Street in Hyannis, and you’ll find what’s locally referred to as the HyArts Campus, a collective of spaces that includes the Geyer Barn.
Fashioned as a community art space, the Guyer Barn is a showcase for emerging and local artists in a wide range of genre. As such, it serves many functions—a working artist studio and gallery, a classroom for instruction, and a place for exhibits and performances. Stop by any time of year, and chances are you’ll find artists hard at work, or workshops in session.
A favorite weekly event is the Friday Night Improv with the New Classics Company. Mark you calendar to visit any Friday evening—the sessions are free and open to the public. New Classics is a company devoted to producing revitalized and reimagined classic works. It was originally formed by three former college friends who wanted a platform for their three-man production of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged. Now they’re a full-fledged theater company—and a delightful one at that.
