Summer has definitely arrived here on Cape Cod and we can’t wait to share the July 4th holiday week with you! The town of Barnstable, where we are located, has the biggest celebration on the Cape with something for all ages. Starting at 9:00 a.m. the annual Barnstable Village Parade will head down Main St. (6A) toward Mill Way. This quaint village parade has a bike decorating contest and all are welcome to participate or watch. Motorcycles, dogs and floats are also part of this beloved event. There’s plenty of parking behind the old courthouse but go early. Or, you can walk from the Inn. It’s about a half mile walk.
You will have a delicious breakfast at Ashley Manor but by mid morning you may wish to enjoy a coffee or snack at one of the eateries or coffee shops on Main St. after the parade. Choose from the Barnstable Market for take-out, Nirvana for special coffee and treats. Or have a sit down lunch at The Dolphin or Mattakeese Wharf
Later in the day, maybe after some quality beach or shopping time, head to Hyannis for the biggest July 4th celebration on the Cape. Bring a chair and pick a spot where you can watch the big town parade down the Main Street of Hyannis at 4 p.m., head over to the harbor for a concert at Aselton Park, and end your day with a spectacular fireworks display at dusk.
All of this will happen on Wednesday, July 4, weather permitting. Plan to arrive early to secure the best parking. Pretty much everything is within walking distance of downtown Hyannis.
Other towns will also be hosting holiday celebrations. Ask us about traffic and parking before heading out. Most towns will have limited parking and planning to arrive early will be important for a stress free, fun day. Pack a picnic or plan on visiting one of the Cape’s many restaurants and clam shacks along the way.
As always, there’s plenty to do every day in July. Ask us for suggestions. We’ll be happy to help you make the most of your visit.
Don’t wait to make your reservations! This is the busiest week of the summer!
