August on Cape Cod

It’s here, the middle of August, perhaps one of the best times for a summer visit. Everything is in bloom, the ocean water is perfect for swimming and there are more activities and adventures than anyone can possibly fit into a vacation schedule.

Cape Cod has become home to many wonderful museums, both large and small. Just down the road from the Ashley Manor you will find the Coast Guard Heritage Museum. While there, visit the oldest Cape Cod jail and a working blacksmith shop, both of which are within easy walking distance. In Barnstable Village there is the Barnstable Historical Society.

Continue into historic Sandwich along scenic Route 6A and find more than a day’s worth of museums and historic houses to visit. Check out the Sandwich Chamber of Commerce page for details and directions as there are more than we can list here. If time is limited, choose the Sandwich Glass Museum and Heritage Museums and Gardens.

For more information on the many Cape museums please go to the Cape Cod Museum Trail site and download their easy to use map. You can find open artist studios, shops and more on the Cape Cod Art and Artisan’s Trail as well.

Don’t forget to leave time to just chill and enjoy the scenery. This is one of the sweetest times of the year. Come join us at Ashley Manor and have a delicious and leisurely breakfast before you go exploring.
